Kinda the opposite, but this reminds me of the Indonesian art of shadow puppetry. Basically they use shadow and light to create whole worlds of demons and princes and other marvelous beings. The puppets themselves are mere paper cut in traditional intricate designs. What is important is the interplay of shadow and light and the stories woven by the performers.

**I lied: The puppets are leather and the art is called wayang kulit. Here is an interesting tidbit from Wikipedia: The term 'wayang' is the Javanese word for shadow,[11] or bayang in standard Indonesian; the word also means "imagination".
